At the Starbucks coffee shop in HKU, when you reach the cashier, you can tell them you are a student or staff and present your UID. Once you have done so, you get 30% off any order you make! It’s probably the cheapest Starbucks you can buy in Hong Kong.

The Main Building has a long history dating all the way back to 1910 when it first started to get constructed. Because of its long history and majestic architectural design, many say it resembles Hogwarts from Harry Potter! It is now a declared monument by the Hong Kong Government.

The Chi Wah Learning Commons located in Centennial Campus is the ultimate multi-technological studying space for students. Along with quiet study areas, sofas, comfortable chairs and individual discussion pods, it is open 24 hours for everyone to enjoy. Many students can be found pulling an all-nighter during exam season. That’s why it has been dubbed “the cradle of GPA 4.0”!

👻 Due to HKU’s long history, there have been many myths and stories. These include happenings that occurred in WWII, stories of students and staff at night as well as stories behind buildings and statues. Senior students hold ghost tours around HKU at night for freshmen during orientation camps!

Green gowns have been a crucial part of HKU tradition. To wear the green gown signifies an important university event, not just making you feel special but look special as well. As an HKU student you must take a nice photo in a green gown before graduation for sure!

HKU students have come up with the ultimate five things you must do during your undergraduate studies! The first is to go on exchange, the second is to get a GPA above 3.0, the third is to take part in an internship or do social service, the fourth is to be part of an executive student committee and lastly it is to “chut pool” (HKU slang that means dating)! If you've completed these 5 things, you're considered to have had a fruitful and fulfilling HKU life.

You should NEVER walk through the two middle entrance doors of K K Leung Building because there is a university myth that if you do, your semester GPA will be lower than 3.0! Students only use the two side doors and no matter how crowded the side doors are, no one dares walk through the two doors in the middle.

“Instagram pier”, located just 5 minutes from HKU, is the ultimate place for students looking to take beautiful photos for social media. The beautiful scenery and light from the sea makes it oh-so-perfect for photos and videos, so why not go there for a walk, take in some fresh air and put your cameras to work!
