Registration & Orientation

2022 HKU Registration & Orientation

Before you officially become an HKUer, you would have to complete the Master Registration online to access a wide range of services, such as university email account, course selection, and Student Registration Card. The major steps are summarized as below.

You may also refer to this website for the latest and most important information regarding registration: https://www.cedars.hku.hk/registration-and-induction/, this website aims to provide  information on the registration procedures and the schedule of various academic and non-academic induction activities in August 2022.  Currently the site is linked to a “Coming Soon” page as the 2022-2023 information is being updated. Expected launch date will be on 8 August 12 noon.

 

First Year Experience website (https://www.cedars.hku.hk/fye)  is the one-stop information hub that showcases all the support and services provided by the University for new students. It would be important for new students to make good use of FYE website to understand and take advantage of the available resources in order to achieve their personal and academic goals.

STEP 1. Master Registration
  • For students with firm offer, or for students who have fulfilled the conditions of the conditional offer, you will be asked to submit any outstanding official documents required to the Admissions Office for verification.​​​​
    • If you hold more than 1 offer from HKU, you will also be asked to declare your final programme choice (see details here)
  • Once your documents have been checked, you will receive details for master registration typically within a week. Please refer to the email and the 'Guide to Online Master Registration' to complete the process via the HKU Portal.

STEP 2. Registration and Induction Programmes for New Students
 
  • An email will be sent to you in late July or after you have accepted the offer. The email will explain the detailed arrangements of the induction talks and orientation programmes in August, 2022. Please refer to the “Orientation” section below for details.

STEP 3. Course Selection
 
  • 1st Year Full-Time Undergraduate students may enrol in courses during August 19th to 25th 2022 via the HKU Portal.

  • Students may also add or drop their courses from September 1, 2022 (Thur) (10:00 am) to September 15, 2022 (Thur) (4:00 pm).

STEP 4. Application of Student Registration Card
 
  • You can apply for your Student Registration Card via the HKU Portal. An acknowledgement email will be sent to your HKU email account around late August to September 2022 once it is ready for collection.

Orientation

 

Weeks of Welcome (WoW) 2022-2023

This is a series of induction programmes for newly arrived non-local students. You are free to choose from a series of activities to be held in late August and early September, and in January for students coming in the second semester. The activities, a mixture of fun, fact finding, visits and tours, aim to help you to settle down, to induct into the local way and to get to know about the new environment and people.

Orientation 2022-2023 

 

The Orientation for Non-local Students is one of the highlights for WoW. It provides students with essential information covering adjustment issues, learning support, immigration formalities, health and safety tips, life in Hong Kong and HKU and many more.

  • Newly admitted students will receive an invitation email in July/August 2022.
